Overview

Paldor Peak falls in the range of Ganesh Himal, northwest of Kathmandu. As the area is relatively near to Kathmandu, it is possible to organize an entire climbing expedition within 17 days. High camp is relatively far from the summit. It is still quite a distance to climb from this camp. A summit camp needs to be placed another four hours climb from the high camp. From the summit camp, it is a very long day to climb Paldor.

After reaching at the summit, you will have a paranomic view of Mt. Machhapuchhre (Fish Tail) in the Annapurna range, all the way to the peaks of the Khumbu region along with the Mt. Shisapangma and the brown hills of Tibet.

The quickest approach to Paldor and Ganesh Himal is from Sabru near Dunche in the Trisuli valley which can be reached in a 6 to 7 hours drive from Kathmandu. From here the trail crosses the Langtang Khola to Sabrubesi. After crossing the Bhote Kosi river the route leads via Tamang villages of Tangjet and Gatlang, then heads northwards along the ridge before dropping into the forest above Mailung Khola to pick up the newly built road that leads to an army post. The moraine filled valley below Paldor is reached from here in another days walk. A more interesting approach is the trek from Sundarijal (on the outskirts of Kathmandu valley) through the hills of Helambu and over the Gosainkunda range to Sabru. The return from the mountain can be made by trekking directly to Trisuli Bazaar in about 4 or 5 days from where a drive of about 3 hours bring one back to Kathmandu.

Itinerary

We will pick you up at Tribhuwan international airport in our private vehicle and drop you at hotel.

Have breakfast and we will go for Kathmandu sightseeing. We will visit monkey temple, bouddhanath , Kathmandu durbar square and have lunch in between Then Walk through Thamel street and Ason and then back to hotel and have dinner.

It will take 8 hrs from kathmandu to reach Dhunche.

After morning breakfast we will drive out along the north-western hills of Kathmandu. Enjoy the Himlayan views and mountainous lifestyle through the terraced fields and rustic villages. Take Lunch at the Trishuli Bazar before continuing further to Dhunche. From Dhunche, we descent down to Syabrubesi.

A short day’s trek with many ups and downs takes us into the valley of the Chilime Khola (River). On route we pass a Monastery and a Buddhist monument. The trail is well forested and easy to follow.

A long day of uphill trekking takes as along the ridge through the jungle and past the small village monastery at Gothen. Climbing up onto the Kurup Danda, we will reach the village of Yari Kharka where we will make the camp for the night. Views are quite good up the valley into Tibet and the snowcapped mountains beyond.

Leaving early, we will follow the Dhanda along and through the forested land. Villages are few and far between. The flattish terrain allows us to cover a good distance. Passing the army Camp at Somdang where we will stop for lunch, we will continue on and climb up towards our camp at Paigutang, just below Lari Mine.

A short but tough trek takes us up to the Paldor Peak Base Camp. We will leave the tree line for the first time and the peak itself looms up in front of us.

On this day we will take rest and we can go to know about summit and utilize our acclimatization.

We will move further up the mountain to our High Camp. The climb is not long but it’s tiring, best to take things easy and prepare yourself for tomorrow attempt at the summit. From base camp, follow a path below the conspicuous moraine on its east side as far as Paldor Tarn. Here there is a small and inconspicuous lake to the south of the peak called Fang. Cross the stream issuing from the lake and aim for the east ridge of Fang. This boulders slope is the Paldor Glacier east at an altitude of 5,200 meters, in a magnificent amphitheatre of alpine – scale peaks. The glacier at this point is flat and uncomplicated by crevasses.

From high camp follow the Paldor Glacier, East, without difficulty, north towards a col on the North – East Ridge. Cross the scree slide and climb a steep snow slope to gain the col. This may be very difficult, in which case ascend the slope to the left, climbing diagonally towards a rocky pinnacle. Follow this foot of the final 150 meters (492 feet) headwall. Ascend this on steep snow to the junction of the South- East Ridge, which may be corniced. Continue easily to the summit.

Not so far but hard downhill. We will re-trace our upward steps back down to Lari Mine. You can get good views of the peak behind you from the campsite. We relax in camp and celebrate our successful take the summit attempt.

Re trace our steps back down hill and along the Khurup Dhanda. Take time to enjoy the Himalayan views and get to know the culture and people of this Tamang and Sherpa dominated region. Tamang and Sherpa people are farmers and traders whom have moved here from Tibet many years ago.

This day we will have leisure time as we will take a rest in Yari kharka but if you want then we can go for a short hike.

We will wake up early and start our trek from Yari kharka towards Thangjet. And it will be easy for us to trek as we have to go through thin forest.

Nest early morning we can trek back to Syabrubesi from Thangjet and overnight at Thangjet.

From syabrubesi we will be back to Kathmandu. Will have cultural dinner and you will be taken to the airport for your return to home.
