Overview

Kathmandu is the capital and largest municipality of Nepal. The city stands at an elevation of approximately 1,400 metres (4,600 ft) in the bowl-shaped Kathmandu Valley of central Nepal. It is surrounded by four major hills: Shivapuri, Phulchoki, Nagarjun, and Chandragiri. Kathmandu Valley is part of three districts (Kathmandu, Lalitpur, and Bhaktapur), has the highest population density in the country, and is home to about a twelfth of Nepal’s population.

BoudhaNath is Buddhist Stupa with one of the biggest dome in the world. The Pashupatinath Temple is a famous, sacred Hindu temple dedicated to Pashupatinath and is located on the banks of the Bagmati River 5 kilometres north-east of Kathmandu Valley in the eastern city of Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal. Bhaktapur Durbar Square is the plaza in front of the royal palace of the old Bhaktapur Kingdom, 1400m above sea level. It is one of three Durbar Squares in the Kathmandu Valley in Nepal, all of which are UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Visit many temples among which the famous are Nyatapol, 55 Windows Palace, Golden Gate, Bhairavnath Temple, The Stone Temple of Batsala Devi and magnificent statue of King BhupatindraMalla.

Early morning observes the lifestyle of local people in Bhaktapur. After lunch drives to Patan Durbar Square situated at the centre of Lalitpur city. It is also one of the three Durbar Squares in the Kathmandu Valley, listed in UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The Durbar Square is full of ancient palaces, temples and shrines, noted for their exquisite carvings such as Krishna Temple, Mahaboudha, Kumbheshwor, The AshokanStupas and many more then drive back to Kathmandu.

Swayambhunath is an ancient religious architecture atop a hill in the Kathmandu Valley, west of Kathmandu city. It is also known as the Monkey Temple as there are holy monkeys living in the north-west parts of the temple. The temple of Dakshinkali is situated about two kilometers south of Shesh Narayan, which is regarded as one of most important Hindu goddesses. Pilgrims visit this temple to offer their prayer and animal sacrifices to the goddess. Besides, this place has been developed as a popular picnic spot.Budanilkantha,about 8 km. north of Kathmandu, at the base of Shivapuri hill is a remarkable colossal statue of Lord Vishnu, reclining on a bed of snakes. This is one of the masterpieces of stone sculptures of Lichchhavi period. This fifth century statue is in the middle of pond.Kathmandu Durbar Square: It is the historic seat of royalty. The Durbar square, with its old temples and places, epitomizes the religious and cultural life of people. It is here that kings of Nepal are crowed and their coronations solemnized. Interesting things to see her are Taleju Temple built by Mahendra Mall in 1549 AD, the temple of KalBhairav, the god of destruction, Nautalle Durbar, Coronation Nasal Chowk, the GaddiBaithak, the statue of King Pratap Mall, the Big Drum, the Jagannath temple and Kasthmandap. It was listed in the UNESCO World Heritage Monument list in 1979 AD.
